Advisory Group on Ionising Radiation (AGIR): Subgroup on Radon Epidemiology
Terms of reference
The terms of reference of the subgroup are to review the evidence on the effects of radon exposure on health which may be relevant to the UK population, produce a draft report for consideration by the AGIR and prepare a final report for publication by that group.

Main issues to be considered
- Latest evidence on the risks of radon exposures including variation on the risk of lung cancer associated with exposure to radon decay products by age and gender. Also the risk of lung cancer due to radon exposure in smokers and non-smokers.
- Health economics of radon remedial and preventative measures.
- Health effects of radon exposure other than lung cancer. This will involve consideration of studies of childhood cancer and skin cancer.
- The distribution of exposure to radon in the UK. This will include determining whether patterns of residential occupational and leisure time exposure are sufficiently distinct as to require special consideration.
- The risk of lung cancer due to radon exposure in experimental animals, and implications for evaluations of human cancer risk from radon.
- Radon dosimetry including doses to lung, skin and other organs.
