East Midlands Region

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) East Midlands provides a specialist health protection service covering infectious, chemical and radiological hazards across the region. It comprises a Regional Office and two local Health Protection Units (HPUs).

The Region's two local HPUs cover the East Midlands Strategic Health Authority (SHA), nine Primary Care Trusts (PCTs), and 40 local authorities.

The Regional Office has experts in regional epidemiology and microbiology, and chemical and environmental hazards, and supports many functions including advising and supporting professionals in communicable disease control, chemical hazards to health and emergency planning, Coordinating and supporting national and local surveillance on communicable and infectious diseases, Contributing to national policy on professional development and standards and Assisting the Regional Director of Public Health in managing the response to outbreaks and incidents
